Tokyo Olympics: Who is Lovlina Borgohain, second Mary Kom assuring a medal for India

Borgohain defeated former world champion Chen of Taiwan in Women's Welterweight quarters.

Putting up an outstanding performance Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) has confirmed another medal at the ongoing Olympics in Tokyo after she defeated Chinese Taipei's Nien-Chin Chen (64-69kg) 4-1 to enter the semifinals. 

She has qualified for the semi-finals and it seems there could be a home bringing of at least a bronze medal from the most celebrated international tournament. 

Mirabai Chanu had won the first silver medal for India in the Weightlifting category. 

Her background. 

The 23-year-old, female Indian boxer was born on October 2, 1997, and belongs to the Golaghat district of Assam. Her father owns a small-scale business and faced a lot of financial struggle in fulfilling the desires of his daughter. She has two elder twin sisters who competed at kickboxing (national level) but they choose not to pursue further.

Even Lovlina started her career as a kickboxer but then she switched it to boxing. She was influenced by Mohammad Ali, and since then she started dreaming of making a career in boxing. During the trials at her school, Barpathar Girls High School, which was held by the Sports authorities, and her exceptional talent, was noticed by Coach Padum Boro, who then selected her for training. She began her training in 2012, and later on, was trained under, Shiv Singh, Chief Women’s Coach.
