Kohli has requested the board for a short break in January next year, according to sources familiar with the situation who spoke to a leading news agency. The tour's final Test will be held from January 11 to 15. On January 19, the ODI series will begin.

The BCCI announced on Monday that Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the Test series due to a hamstring injury. It's unclear if the new ODI captain would be able to recuperate in time for the South African series.
