Sri Lanka pulled level with India in their three-match T20I series on Wednesday, July 28. The Islanders( Sri Lanka) won the second T20I by four wickets at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In the penultimate game, apart from some jaw-dropping action on the field, fiery clash between India's Rahul Chahar and Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga also drew attention.

Chahar dismissed Hasaranga with the last ball of the 15th over to reduce the hosts to 94/5, with Lanka needing 39 runs off 30 balls. Hasaranga attempted to play the ball through the off-side after the Indian spinner churned off a wide loopy leg-break. The batter, on the other hand, was only able to get a thickish exterior edge. Standing at point, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a straightforward catch.

Chahar became furious and screamed giving rough expressions at Hasaranga after that. But the latter remained composed and preserved the spirit of the game. Hasaranga tapped his bat and cheered Chahar's reaction as he returned to the pavilion. See video here.

While many said that this is called sportsmanship and praise the calmness reaction of Hasaranga given to Chahar, some fans are angry with the Chahar furious reaction over taking the wicket.


Earlier, Bhuvneshwar got Avishka Fernando caught by Rahul Chahar. Rahul, who was fielding on the boundary, dived to catch this catch, but he lost his balance and he went outside the boundary line. During this, he took the catch by throwing the ball inside the boundary and diving again. The umpires were also surprised to see this catch. Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka's captain, praised Dhananjaya de Silva and Hasaranga for keeping the innings together after the team's victory with two balls to spare. Despite Hasaranga's 15 runs, De Silva remained unbeaten with a match-winning 40 off 34 balls, including one four and one six.

There was a partnership of 49 runs for the first wicket between Rituraj and Dhawan.


Captain Dhawan once again missed the fifty. He was dismissed for 40 runs off 42 balls. He was clean bowled by Akila. Dhawan had scored 46 runs in the last match.

Debutant Rituraj Gaikwad was dismissed after scoring 21 runs off 18 balls. He was caught by Shanaka at the hands of wicketkeeper Minod Bhanuka.

Padikkal was dismissed for 29 runs off 23 balls. He was clean bowled by Hasaranga.


Padikkal hit a four on the reverse sweep on the ball before getting out. He got out in the process of hitting a big shot again on the next ball.

Akila Dhananjaya took 2 wickets for Sri Lanka. Apart from this, Dushmantha Chamira, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka got 1-1 wickets.

Sanju Samson was dismissed after scoring 7 runs in 13 balls. He was clean bowled by Akila.

Team India players were surprised to see Rahul's catch.


Varun Chakraborty bowled brilliantly in the second T20. He took 1 wicket for 18 runs in 4 overs. Varun clean bowled Samarwickrama.

Minod Bhanuka was dismissed after scoring 36 runs in 31 balls. He was caught by Kuldeep Yadav at the hands of Rahul Chahar. Kuldeep took 2 wickets in the match.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun was dismissed after scoring 3 runs in 6 balls. He was stumped by Kuldeep at the hands of wicketkeeper Samson.


Dhananjay de Silva played an excellent innings. He remained unbeaten on 40 off 34 balls. He along with Karunaratne led his team to victory.

Meanwhile, Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan admitted publicly that his team was 10-15 runs short of where they desired to be. He also praised his players for bringing the game to a tense finish.

“The surface shifted and came to a halt. We were aware that we were missing one batter. We understood we needed to plan out our innings carefully. We were short by 10-15 runs. That would have been the deciding factor. I am quite proud of the boys. The mindset of "never say die" is incredible. After the game, Dhawan commented, "Hats off to the boys for bringing it into the last over."
