Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday appointed prominent industrialist Nitin Kohli as the Halqa In-Charge (Constituency Head) for Jalandhar Central. Nitin Kohli's appointment as Jalandhar Central halqa in-charge comes after the constituency was witnessing a vacuum in leadership due to MLA Raman Arora's arrest in a corruption case.
The appointment strongly signals that AAP is preparing to field Nitin Kohli as its official candidate from the Jalandhar Central seat in the 2027 assembly elections. Traditionally, the Halqa In-Charge plays a critical role in driving development work within the constituency and acts as the party’s representative on the ground. Kohli's passion for sports, especially India's National Sport- hockey- is remarkable. After completing his graduation, he joined his family business Vijayanti, a popular brand known for manufacturing world class hockeys. In doing so, he took his father’s legacy brand to the next level and created a name for himself in the field of hockey worldwide. Looking at his dedication to the sport, he was then appointed as Joint Secretary, Hockey Punjab for 7 years. Later, he was made President of Hockey Punjab in 2017. Last month, he was appointed as the Vice President of Hockey India, giving him the chance to bring reform on a national level.
