A major change in flight operations has been announced at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport starting April 1, 2026 due to runway repair and upgrade work and according to Airport Director Bhupinder Singh the runway will remain closed every day from 1:45 pm to 9:45 pm till September 27, 2026 which means no flights will take off or land during these 8 hours.
He said the work is being carried out by the Airports Authority of India and around ₹50 crore will be spent on improving airport facilities.
No need to panic as no flights have been cancelled
Airlines have rescheduled flights before or after the closure time
Passengers should check their flight timings with airlines before leaving
Flight operations will resume daily after 9:45 pm
The airport is undergoing major upgrades including:
Re-carpeting of the runway (done every 5–6 years, slightly delayed this time)
Work will be done in two layers for safer landings
Development of RESA (Runway End Safety Areas) at both ends as per global standards
Replacement of over 2,000 old lights with energy-efficient LED lights
Installation of ILCMS system for faster and safer monitoring of runway lights, especially during low visibility
The airport authorities said these upgrades are important for passenger safety and better services in the future and requested travelers to cooperate during this period.
