Cabinet Minister Sond appears before Akal Takht, assures no lapse in Sikh depictions

Akal Takht Jathedar has instructed to appoint an officer in the Tourism Department that has viable knowledge about Sikhism, its principles and heritage.

Punjab Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond appears before Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Monday, and presented a clarification on the behalf of the department. The issue stems over a painting showing Guru Gobind Singh Ji wearing shoes while administering ‘amrit’ to Bhai Jaita Ji, at Bhai Jeevan Singh Memorial, Anandpur Sahib. Later, while addressing the media about the same he clarifies, that the Akal Takht Jathedar has instructed to appoint an officer in the Tourism Department that has viable knowledge about Sikhism, its principles and heritage.

He assures that he would hold discussions in this regard with the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and appeal that the appointment of the said officer be made swiftly.

He assured that in the future no such lapse would be made in any pictorial representations. Talking further about the case, he mentions how during the Martyrdom celebrations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the CM had especially made sure that Sikh etiquettes were adhered strictly. Sond showed gratification to the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib for accepting his clarification.
