Hotel Mariton has once again come under scrutiny, this time over its alleged operation without an occupancy certificate.

MC writes to CP

The Municipal Corporation has written to the Jalandhar Police Commissioner seeking action to have the hotel vacated, while officials say further sealing proceedings will follow if the alleged violation is not addressed.

MD tells a different story

The hotel management, however, disputes the Corporation's position, its Managing Director, Dr. Paramjit Singh Marwaha, says a partial completion certificate was issued by the Corporation on July 24, 2026.

Two contradicting claims

The two sides are therefore taking sharply different positions as, the Municipal Corporation says the hotel is operating without the certificates required under the rules, while the hotel management says it has already obtained the relevant approval and has questioned why it is being repeatedly targeted.

MC says hotel operating without completion & occupancy certificates

Municipal Corporation officials maintain that Hotel Mariton does not have the required completion and occupancy certificates. MTP Iqbal Preet Singh Randhawa said the hotel started operations without obtaining the required certificate and according to him, this amounts to a violation of the applicable regulations.

Seeks police help

Randhawa said the Corporation has therefore written to the Police Commissioner seeking action to have the hotel vacated and he further said that sealing proceedings would follow.

3-day notice issued

The Corporation has also issued a three-day notice in connection with the matter, according to the official and the three-day period will begin from the date the notice is received by the concerned party.

What is MC saying?

The Corporation's position is straightforward: before a building is used for the purpose for which it has been constructed, the required statutory approvals and certificates have to be in place and since the Corporation maintains that Hotel Mariton does not possess the necessary completion and occupancy certificates, it has initiated action.

Hotel management disputes Corporation's claim

Hotel Mariton Managing Director Dr. Paramjit Singh Marwaha has rejected the allegation that the hotel is operating without the necessary documentation and according to Marwaha a partial completion certificate was issued by the Municipal Corporation on July 24, 2026. Marwaha has questioned the basis of the latest notice in light of these documents.

The management has also questioned why the hotel is being repeatedly subjected to action.

What next?

The difference between the two positions is central to the controversy, while the hotel management sees repeated notices as targeted action, the Corporation says it is enforcing building regulations, and for now, the Corporation has moved the matter to the Police Commissioner and issued a three-day notice, according to its official.

The hotel management, however, continues to dispute the Corporation's claim and says it has documents supporting its position.
