A court has sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her 6-year-old son in a case that dates back to 2020 in Sohal Jagir village of Jalandhar, Punjab and along with this the court has also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on the accused.

The victim Arshpreet Singh was the only son of the family and according to the case details the child was very close to his grandmother and often insisted on sleeping with her and this had reportedly led to frequent arguments within the family.

What happened on the day of the incident?

The incident took place on June 8, 2020 and that night the child again insisted on sleeping with his grandmother ultimately this led to a dispute between the mother Kulwinder Kaur and other family members.

According to the statement given by the child’s grandfather Avtar Singh he and his wife were sitting in the lobby around 9:30 pm while Kulwinder Kaur was inside a room with the child that is when suddenly they heard the child screaming.

When they rushed inside they found the boy lying on the bed covered in blood and the accused mother was standing nearby holding a kitchen knife. It is alleged that she stabbed the child twice in the abdomen and then fled from the spot. Following this the injured child was immediately taken to the hospital but he died on the way.

Police action & court verdict

Police registered a murder case and arrested the accused and the case was investigated based on witness statements and evidence.

Years later the court found Kulwinder Kaur guilty of the murder and while delivering the judgment the court said that the case is extremely serious as a mother took the life of her own innocent child. The court added that strict punishment is necessary in such cases to send a strong message to society.
