Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal reacted to the meeting of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House in New Delhi and took a sharp political jibe at both parties.
Reacting to the meeting, Kejriwal said, “Na na karte pyaar, tum hi se kar bethe.”
He then questioned whether the BJP and SAD could be moving towards another political alliance and said, "So, is an alliance being formed between the 'Donation Thief Party' and the 'Sacrilege Party'?"
His remarks came amid renewed political discussion over the possibility of the BJP and SAD coming together again ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The BJP and SAD were long-time allies in Punjab and had contested elections together for several years and their alliance ended in September 2020 after the SAD left the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) over the three farm laws introduced by the Centre.
The laws were later repealed and since then, both parties have followed separate political paths. SAD and BJP contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections separately.
For several months, BJP leaders in Punjab have maintained that the party would fight the 2027 Assembly elections independently, however, Sukhbir Badal’s meeting with PM Modi has brought the possibility of renewed ties between the two parties back into political discussion.
There has been no official confirmation from either the BJP or SAD about any proposal to revive their alliance and details of the meeting between Badal and Modi have also not been made public.
