Delhi Police has issued a public clarification after false reports about the death of a woman protester began circulating on social media and the police confirmed that the woman is alive and is receiving treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.
In a statement shared on X on Thursday, Delhi Police said that the reports claiming the death of the female protester at Jantar Mantar are false and along with this the police said the woman is admitted to RML Hospital and that doctors have confirmed her condition is stable and she is out of danger.
The police also appealed to the public to be careful while sharing information online and also urged people to verify facts through official sources before forwarding any news or social media posts. According to the police, responsible digital behaviour helps prevent the spread of false information.
The injured woman has been identified as 21-year-old Sakshi. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of RML Hospital after being injured during the protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20.
According to the latest medical bulletin issued by the hospital, Sakshi's condition has improved significantly. doctors said she has been taken off the ventilator and is now breathing on her own. She is conscious, responding to commands, and her MRI scans of the brain and spine are normal.
Sakshi was injured during a stampede-like situation that took place after police began lathi-charging protesters during the march and according to Abhay, a Delhi University student who helped her, several people fell during the chaos, leading to a stampede-like situation.
Abhay said Sakshi became trapped in the crowd and was quickly pulled out, following which two MBBS students present at the spot immediately performed CPR after noticing that she was not responding properly, and she was then rushed to RML Hospital for treatment.
The incident took place during ongoing protests linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has been holding demonstrations over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and protesters have been demanding action over the alleged irregularities and have organised marches and demonstrations in different parts of the country, including at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
Following the circulation of false claims about Sakshi's death, Delhi Police has once again appealed to the public not to believe or share unverified information and police advised citizens to rely only on official updates and confirmed sources before posting or forwarding news on social media.
