Tarak Sinha, the Indian coach who mentored the most international and first-class cricketers, died on Saturday morning owing to prolonged illness. The 71-year-old cricket coach had trained generations of Indian cricketers.

The legendary coach was battling lung cancer for a certain time and had recently suffered from multiple organ failures.

Sinha passed away earlier in the day in a New Delhi hospital.

The Delhi based Sinha was honoured with Dronacharya Award in 2018 becoming the fifth Indian cricket coach to receive the award after Desh Prem Azad, Gurcharan Singh, Ramakant Achrekar, and Sunita Sharma.

Rishabh Pant, who has established himself as one of the best batsmen in the world, looked up to Sinha as a father figure and was overjoyed when the coach was awarded the prestigious Dronacharya Award.

Sinha was a father figure in Delhi's illustrious Sonnet Club, which has produced some of the country's best cricketers, both nationally and internationally.

"It is with a heavy heart we have to share this tragic news of Shri Tarak Sinha, the founder of Sonnet Club, has left us for heavenly abode at 3 am on Saturday after a brave battle with lung cancer for two months," read a statement by the Sonnet Club.

Sonnet was like family to Sinha. He was so devoted to cricket that he never considered marrying. It was always about finding the next best in his mind.

Another aspect of his mentoring was that he would never allow a student to neglect their studies. Any student who shows up for training during his annual school or college exams will be immediately dismissed and will not be permitted to practise until the exams are completed.

Legendary Tarak Sinha is survived by his sister and hundreds of students and well-wishers, whose lives became better due to his positive presence.
