Mithali Raj fires first response after BCCI Prez Sourav Ganguly confirms of Women's IPL; 'I think..'

Indian Women's cricket team Test & ODI skipper Mithali Raj on Saturday expressed her views on the Women's IPL (WIPL) and stated that the advent of the league for the women will be great. Mithali Raj conducted a question/answer session on Twitter in which she was giving answer to her fans. Among the various questions, one was on the Women's IPL (WIPL). 

The fan asked Mithali Raj, "What do you think about women's IPL and do you believe it'll help the upcoming generation in women's cricket?." On that, the 39-years-old cricketer said, "I think it would be great. Absolutely rubbing shoulders with international stars & national heroes is great exposure."
Furthermore, Mithali was asked what should be today if not a cricketer? On that the Indian Women's team skipper replied that she would have been a Bharatnatyam dancer or would have joined Civil Services. "Maybe a Bharatnatyam dancer or in the civil services."
Again Mithali Raj was asked about her favourite cricketers in both male and female. She replied, "Women - Karen Rolton, Neetu David, Katherine Brunt and Meg planning.  Men - Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Bevan, Ricky Ponting and Jasprit Bumrah."


Women's IPL

Coming back to the women's IPL, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently in an interview with a news agency confirmed that the Indian cricket board is formulating Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL). "We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e. 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women’s IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men’s IPL." said Ganguly. 

Australia has already started the women's version of the Big Bash League and various women cricketers of India participate in that. In fact, various women cricketers of India had expressed their wish about the WIPL. Cricketers including Jemimah Rodrigues, Smriti Mandhana, and many more have advocated for the WIPL.
