PV Sindhu enters quarterfinals, here’s a brief rundown of Sindhu’s achievements

On Thursday, P. V. Sindhu entered the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Pusaria Venkata Sindhu has won multiple medals at multiple tournaments. She is the first Indian to become the Badminton World Champion and the first Indian woman to earn the Olympics silver medal in 2016. 

Now, P. V. Sindhu is representing India in Olympics 2020 and so far her performance is in favour of India. Indian Badminton star has entered quarterfinals in Tokyo Olympics 2020. 

It was a slow start for Sindhu, the game was started with a two-point lead to Blitchfeldt. And soon after Sindhu pressed the advantage and varied her pace well and maintained a five-point lead at 10-5. Sindhu maintained the momentum as well as the lead. Game 1 was closed soon at 21-15 as PV earned five-game points at 20-15.

After winning the first game fantastically, Sindhu started Game 2 with 5-0 and dominated the game with the lead over Mia. Sindhu entered the quarterfinals with a lead of 21-13. 

PV started the journey in Tokyo Olympics with a win. Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu won the match with a 21-7, 21-10 over Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel in her first match of Group J of the women’s singles at the Tokyo Olympics.

PV Sindhu got her career breakthrough in 2008 when she won the Gold medal in the U-14 category in National School Games. At the International platform, she made her debut at the 2009 Asian Sub-Junior Badminton Championships in Colombo. She won the bronze medal in her first international match. 

The first international senior title was earned by Sindhu at Malaysian International in 2011. In 2014, she won the Silver medal at the Indian Grand Prix Gold, and in the 2016 South Asian Games, she won the Gold and Bronze in the Women’s team and single respectively.  

Since 2013, she has won the medal in every participated tournament, except for 2015. 

Sindhu won her first super-series title at the 2016 China Open and followed it up with four more finals in 2017. In 2017, she won the Syed Modi International title and the Indian Open Series.

In 2018, she has won a Silver medal in both Commonwealth Games and Asian Games and later, in the same year she won two bronze medals at the Uber Cup. 

As of March 2021, she is ranked 7th in the women’s world ranking.

PV Sindhu and awards:

PV is the recipient of the sports honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Padma Shri. 

In January 2020, she was honoured with the third-highest civilian award of India, Padma Bhushan.

PV Sindhu’s life and background:

PV Sindhu was born on 5 July 1995 to PV Raman and P. Vijaya. She comes from a family of sportspersons. Both parents are former national-level volleyball players. She decided to play Badminton after she drew inspiration from the success of Pullela Gopichand. 

She started learning badminton at the age of 8 from unsung badminton player Mir Mahboob Ali. Unfortunately, Mir Ali passed away in 2011 and sooner than later, Sindhu joined Gopichand Badminton Academy. 

She was always motivated towards Badminton and her hard work is paying off well and she has been making India proud!
