After months of evading arrest a major breakthrough has come in the Kamal Kaur Bhabhi murder case with the alleged mastermind Amritpal Singh Mehron now in police custody and his return to India has once again brought the focus back on the murder of Ludhiana-based influencer Kanchan Kumari a case that had shocked Punjab and raised serious concerns over threats linked to social media content.
Here’s a simple timeline of how the crime unfolded and how the accused managed to stay on the run for months.
Kanchan Kumari also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi was a Ludhiana-based social media influencer and she had a large following and was known for her bold content and reports say she had received threats earlier over her posts.
June 7–8, 2025
The main accused Amritpal Singh Mehron allegedly contacted Kanchan and invited her to Bathinda for a promotional event.
June 9, 2025
Kanchan left Ludhiana for Bathinda after informing her family and she was picked up by two men who were later identified as Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh.
Night of June 9–10
Police say she was taken to a garage in Bhucho Mandi and was allegedly strangled to death there.
June 10, 2025 (morning)
Just hours after the murder Amritpal fled India from Amritsar airport to the UAE.
June 11–12, 2025
Her body was dumped inside her own car and left in a parking area near Adesh University in Bathinda.
June 12, 2025 (evening)
A foul smell from the parked car led locals to inform police and her body was found inside the vehicle.
Investigation revealed it was a planned murder and the accused allegedly killed her over her social media content claiming it hurt religious sentiments and two accused Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh were arrested soon after while Amritpal was declared absconding.
Following this, police started a manhunt and involved central agencies and a Look-Out Circular and international alerts were issued while efforts were made through global agencies to track him.
Amritpal was detained in the UAE during a visa-related inquiry in January 2026 however legal and deportation procedures took time and according to the latest update he has now been taken into custody by UAE authorities and handed over to Punjab Police.
